My Philosophy
My Story
Relationships have always been very important to me and I believe that healthy relationships are key to functional life. Being a mother and wife has done a lot to encourage me to get better at relating to others. I have participated in many different trainings along this journey to become a counselor and I believe that all these experiences add to my ability to be empathetic and compassionate toward others and to walk with them through the messy parts of life that we all get stuck in at times.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Family Life Education from Corban University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox Univeristy. Some of the major course work I have completed includes Human Growth and Development, Grief and Loss, Emotion Focused Therapy.
I am a licensed professional counselor. I have experience working with children, couples, familes and individuals.
I believe that all people are intrinsically valuable and are capable of change. Counseling can be a useful tool to help bring about changes in life.
It is important to me that the individual, couple, and/or family and I work together to build the foundation of trust and respect to facilitate the changes each individual desires to see in oneself and/or in the family. I see therapy as a collaborative effort that will require all parties to participate.
My method of therapy will depend on your and/or your family's specific needs but I may employ a number of techniques to explore client concerns including; cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion focused therapy, writing, collaborative problem solving, as well as many other evidenced based practices.
